Many of us use the post format option to again categorize some posts and have different reasons. Basically templates can be customized for different post formats.

You nee to have this enable in your theme. You can enable this by adding this code to the functions.php file of your theme.

function kishgensetup () {
    add_theme_support( 'post-formats', array(
	'aside',
	'image',
	'video',
	'quote',
	'link',
	'gallery',
	'status',
	'audio',
	'chat',
    ) );
}
add_action( 'after_setup_theme', 'kishgensetup', 11);

This is in response to the below query

I was having the option to select which post format I should use when I write a new post on WordPress, but after changing the theme, this is missing. I believe, post format feature is a core WordPress feature, so why should it go missing when I change to a new theme.
