Poached Egg Masala / Egg Drop Masala

Here is my recipe for easy to prepare poached egg masala or Egg drop masala. Try, you will definitely love this…


  • Egg – 2
  • Onion – 2 medium, finely sliced
  • Ginger paste – 1 tsp
  • Garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Green Chilly – 2
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Kashmiri Chilly powder – 1 tsp (adjustable)
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Tomato – 1 medium
  • Garam Masala – 1/4 tsp
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard – 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves – few

Method of Preparation:

  • Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds.
  • When they start to splutter, add curry leaves, green chilly and the sliced onion
  • Add little salt and saute the onions till it turns slightly pink and translucent
  • Add the ginger- garlic pastes and stir till its raw smell disappears
  • Reduce the heat to simmering and add the coriander powder, chilli powder and turmeric powder and stir till its raw smell goes
  • Add the chopped tomato, combine all the ingredients well, cover and cook till oil separates.
  • Add 2 cups of boiling water to it, mix well, check the salt, cover and cook until everything blend together well and boil
  • When the mixtures starts to boil, carefully crack the egg and pour into the boiling mixture. Be careful not to stir mixture
  • Cover and cook for 1-2 mins over medium heat and pour some gravy using a spoon over the eggs, cover and cook again until the egg yolk is cooked properly
  • Turn off the heat, sprinkle some freshly ground garam masala on top of it, cover and keep aside for sometime

Now it is ready to serve and serve it with Roti, Appam, or bread…


If you want to soften its flavour, you can add 1/2 cup of coconut milk (slightly thick) before removing from the stove
