The Maldives, known to be one of the most costliest destinations in the world. Resorts in the Maldives are a very different experience and are visited regularly by celebrities, big business tycoons, etc.
Maldives is a must visit destination, if you enjoy beaches, water sports, sea planes, blue water and the hospitality of the people of Maldives.
I have been working in the Maldives since 2002, have been to about 70 resorts and experienced luxury villas, food and other facilities.

Things to know before your travel to Maldives for Vacations
You should have your booking confirmation, you get a tourist visa on arrival. Other types of visas in Maldives
Things which you should NOT carry
Alcohol, pork, arms, etc are banned in Maldives. You can have alcohol at your resort, do not carry with you. If you have got it by mistake, you have to surrender at the customs, you can take it back when you return.
Alcohol in Maldives
Alcohol are served only at private islands, resorts. It is illegal to posses alcohol in Maldives.
Maldives is a humid / hot country, just come with cotton cloths, beach wears
Please make sure that you carry sufficient sun protection lotions / creams, ideal SPF 50 or more
You should have proper health insurance, medical facilities are very costly in the Maldives. There are good hospitals and clinics in Male’, the capital of Maldives.
Resorts in Maldives are Private Islands
Usually every resort in the Maldives is a private island. You will not find any others living in the island other than the resort staff. Nobody can come to the resort without a booking or prior permission.
Number of Resorts in Maldives – 2018
Roughly there are about 200 resorts in Maldives. Maldives is a group of about 1200 island out of which 250 are inhabited which includes the resorts.
Best Resort in Maldives for Honeymoon
There are some resorts like Mirihi, but to be very frank, you can go to any resort for your honeymoon. Every resort in the Maldives is a private island and you will get every privacy you expect from all the resorts in the Maldives. Many resorts market themselves are honeymoon resort.
Facilities at the Velana International Airport
You arrive at Velana International Airport which all basic facilities available. You can get a mobile connection. There are two mobile operators, Dhiraagu and Ooredoo.

Prices / cost of vacation in Maldives
I would not go into much details on the prices, but I suggest to check out Booking.com and get the best offer. There are villas available from US$ 200 per night to US$ 40,000 per night.
Traveling from the Airport to the Resort
Usually the resort arranges the transportation to the resort from the Airport. You will be taken on a speed boat if the resort is near the airport or you will be taking a sea plane to the resort. The package would include the transportation to the resort from the airport.
How safe is Maldives for a tourist?
Maldives is a very safe destination for tourist. As you would mostly be in a private island, you do not have to worry about your safety. If you are going to stay in a guest house located in an inhabited island, then you will be living with locals and other guests. Overall you should not have to worry about safety in Maldives.

Wedding in Maldives
Many tourists plan their wedding at Maldives. There are resorts which organise wedding for their guests.
Veligandu Island Resort and Spa – Maldives
Veligandu is one of the oldest resort in the Maldives. There are about 90 villas, most of which are water villas and beach side villas.
The resort is about 20 minutes fly from the Velana International Airport by Sea Plane. If you are traveling by a speed boat, then it would take about 1 hour. We went to the resort an sea plane and came back on a speed launch. The ride was smooth as the weather was great. Usually for guests, they would prefer only sea planes, Trans Maldivian Airways.

The trip to Veligandu Island Resort was good. We were there for 2 days. Like every resort, Veligandu Island Resort has facilities for water sports, scuba diving, snorkelling, spa and other sports activities.

Traveling on a speed boat to a resort or from a resort would be a great experience. If the sea is not rough, you will have a nice time.
