Taj Mahal – Reflection

Must visit Destinations if you are traveling to Agra

Agra is a historical city and there are some places other than Taj Mahal that you can visit in a single day if you are around Agra. You can find my travel tips to Agra which covers Fatehpur Sikri, Agra Fort and Taj Mahal. You should be aware of some important things before you travel. Please read my personal experience shared.

Fatehpur Sikri – Travel Tips

We started our trip to Agra from Delhi. It was a good idea to start early morning to avoid the Delhi morning traffic. We used the Yamuna Expressway to move toward Agra and then diverted to Fatehpur Sikri. Most of the roads were good.

Fatehpur Sikri is really a marvellous place to visit which is a town in Agra district. Fatehpur Sikri was built Emperor Akbar. You should walk around and see all the locations inside the fort. It would be good if you read about the place before you go so that you can co-relate with what you have read. If you are just interested in walking through, then nothing matters.

You have to park your vehicle and walk or talk an auto to the fort. You would definitely be surrounded by guides who would offer the services of talking you from the parking, showing you around, explaining you the history of Fatehpur Sikri, History of Buland Darwaza, Panch Mahal, Jama Masjid, Tomb of Salim Chishti, etc.

We had hired a person for INR 750 who I felt did a good job except almost cornering us to pay a donation at the darga of INR 1100. I would not have felt bad, if things where explained properly rather than telling the cost after the offering of Chaddar was done.

He will also introduce you to some traders who will be showing their art works and try to sell some, you can decide if you would want to buy.

Everything else went well, we covered the entire place in about 2 hours.

Another advice, check the temperature / climate before you travel. We made a mistake of traveling when it was too hot during day time.

Dress Code at Fatehpur Sikri

You cannot enter the fort with shorts, so you should be prepared or they will give your a cloth to wear. Also you will have to cover your head if you are getting into the Dargah

Agra Fort – Travel Tips

Another excellent piece of work by great artists / architecture of great historical value. Same like Fatehpur Sikri, you will love this place. You can have a view of Taj Mahal from Agra fort.

Agra fort was built by Akbar between 1565 and 1573. Agra fort was declared UNESCO World Heritage Site inscription in 1983.

You can travel to Taj Mahal to Agra fort which is very nearby about 3kms (12 minutes drive).

Taj Mahal – One of the seven wonders of the world

You have to park your vehicle about 1km from the exact location. You have the option to walk from the parking or take a battery operated buggy / bus.

Again here you would be contacted by guides, be bit careful when you fix the charges. We felt bad when our guide had offered us to show the place including the tickets and other charges for INR 500. But later he told that he did not mean about the tickets and other stuffs, which was nominal. If you take a high value ticket, you have a priority to walk inside Taj Mahal or you have to be a part of long queues. Once you are inside, all are treated alike, pushed and pulled.

One of the seven wonders of the world, tourists from around the world come here, we definitely have a very big responsibility to keep Taj Mahal clean and neat, things organised and systematic. You find lots of people breaking the queue, through waste on the floor which really disturbs.

More about Taj Mahal

You are not allowed to wear shoes inside Taj Mahal. You have to either remove your shoes or wear shoe covers which you can buy before you enter Taj Mahal.

Best Time to Visit Taj Mahal

I would suggest you should got at about 4pm so that you can have a look of Taj Mahal during sunset. Also plan your trip when the climate is not too hot.
