Traveling anywhere near Mysore and looking for home-made food? Then better take a turn to Thotada Mane near Srirangapatna. It is a pure vegetarian restaurant where they serve only breakfast, lunch and evening tea with snacks. If you are traveling to Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary , then this is a good option for your food.
Bangalore Mysore Highway Vegetarian Restaurant – Thotada Mane
Thotada Mane is not exactly on the Bangalore-Mysore Highway. On the highway, at the Srirangapatna junction, take a turn to Pandavapura road. If you coming from Bangalore it will be on your right side and it will be on your left side when you come from Mysore. Go further down about 2kms on the Pandavapura road, you will find a board “thotada mane – pure veg restaurant” on the lush green backdrops on your left side. The best way is to use Google Maps.
- 7:30am to 5:00Pm except Monday, which is a weekly off day
- Lunch Starts at 12:30 noon
Though the timing given is 7:30, the dishes will be served only by 7:45 am and they need minimum 10-15 mins for serving your food once the order is taken.
Small and neat wash rooms with bamboo walls and hay-thatched roof with no tissue rolls, hand faucet and jet sprays or latch. Fair amount of area is reserved at the very entrance for the parking of vehicles.
Traditional Karnataka Vegetarian Food
The USP (unique selling point) of Thotada mane is home style food is served in a village ambience. It is true and the management is strictly sticking on to their basic principle. You don’t find anything modern or trending within the premises once you are inside the thota (estate or farm). Everything you see inside the food serving area is so nostalgic…wooden radio half broken, old camera, Worli art wall hangings, Sholay movie poster, pulses grinding stone, etc..
If my guesses are correct all the Staffs in the restaurant are ladies except one person.
You get traditional Karnataka dishes like akki roti, varieties of dosa, shavige upittu, etc for the breakfast and for lunch traditional karnata thali with the choice of Poori, Chapati, Kerala Paratha, etc.. even jain food is also served…
Thotada mane has some of their special dishes too… like curry leaves potato wedges, curry leaves rice, etc..
Photos of Thotada Mane
The restaurant is set up in a very simple and elegant style using all old extinct equipment and show pieces. The place does not have any Air conditioned hall or even a fan, everything is natural here.
If you are non-vegetarian and would want to have some non-vegetarian food, then this is not for you. If you want to have pork dishes, the best place to have pork and Kodava food in Mysore is Simply Kodavas.
