From 31st May 2009 (World No Tobacco day) all the tobacco products should have a pictorial warning which should occupy 40 percent of the space on the front of all packets of tobacco products in India. Many other countries like Australia and other European countries has already implemented this law.
"According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India records about 800,000 tobacco deaths every year or 2,200 deaths a day. The pictorial warnings are a big breakthrough. They will help in sensitising people about tobacco hazards and new tobacco consumers will think twice before taking these products," Bhavna Mukhopadhaya of Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI) said.
Now the question is whether this law will reduce the number of tobacco users or smokers? Tobacco users can quit the use of tobacco if they decide to do it. Tobacco does not had physical dependence like other drugs by only mental dependence, if somebody decides to quit, he should be able to do it, its a matter of will power.
Will you quit smoking or using tobacco if you see the pictorial warning? Quit Tobacco before it kills you.
