Theemuge, the official residence of the previous president of Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom had been opened to the public. You can check out the pictures of the Presidential Palace Pictures here. There was a huge crowd who visited the palace. This place is not used by the current President.

There are lots of controversies behind opening the Palace for the public. This is the first time in the history of Maldives that the Palace is opened to the public. According to DRP the Opening the palace is a trick to influence the public for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections in Maldives which is scheduled on the 9th of May 2009.

I could not get a chance to have a glimpse of the Palace, but some locals in Male’ and press people were lucky to get into. There was a huge queue in front of the palace at Orchid Magu. People had to wait more than 2 hours to get into the palace.
