I recently upgraded my iPhone 3G to iPhone 3G S and I should admit that its worth the upgrade. The speed is really double. You will find things moving as you wish. Programs loads much faster than the iPhone 3G. Camera is good, Video option is appreciated.
The Compass and Google Maps works great. I would recommend people who are thinking of this upgrade to go ahead. I did not find much difference in the Battery back up. My Wifi, Bluetooth, Push Email is always on, I get to go well with a single charge for the whole day which I was getting with my iPhone 3G.

3Gs is indeed a much more balanced phone. I have bought one last week and I am very satisfied with my purchase. It’s faster, has got larger storage space, better graphics etc.
However, I thought, apple could have integrated a fm radio, zooming capacity to camera, better battery. Moreover, document (especially PDF) viewing is a matter of concern. No way to drag a PDF/doc file from PC to iphone (unless we buy a application ‘airsharing’)
