Got this Cognac from the Duty free shop at the Male’ International airport. In India, we are allowed to carry not more than 2 liters of alcohol, so I never buy more than 2 bottles of 1 liter each. I usually carry my Nikon D80 where ever I travel. This time I was questioned by the Bangalore customs about the value of the camera and I should declare this. A senior customs officer was kind enough to give me an option to get an export paper done when I travel back to Maldives, so that I can show this when I come back.
We are not allowed to carry alcohol to Maldives. Now a new hotel is coming up (Holiday Inn) which will be the first hotel to have a mini bar. Other hotel near Male’ is the Hulhule Island hotel, where you can go and have a drink. Expatriates working in Maldives (Manager level and up) can get a liquor permit and drink at home.
